How is payment calculated?

Payment of the premium will be calculated 'pro rata' up to 1 April of the following year therefore the annual payment may not be due in full. Please DO NOT send any payment for insurance until your application has been accepted.

If I decide to join AfPP's indemnity insurance scheme how will the subscription be collected?

Unless you specify a different method then we will collect your indemnity insurance at the same time as your AfPP subscription in the same way

What if I want to join the AfPP indemnity insurance scheme part way through my subscription year?

We will take payment for the indemnity subscription for the period up until your AfPP subscription renewal and then continue your indemnity subscriptions alongside your AfPP subscription. Due to this your first payment (if paid monthly/quarterly) may be slightly higher than normal

How does cover operate?

Professional Indemnity cover is written on a "claims made" basis. This means that any claims are dealt with under the terms of the policy in force at the time the claim is notified, not the policy that was in force at the time of the original error or omission that has led to the claim. For this reason it is important that you do not allow insurance cover to lapse as this will mean that you will be responsibile for settling any claims notified during the period cover is not in force. Please keep the above in mind when completing your preferred "start date of insurance" and when considering the cancellation of any previous cover held. It is essential that we have plenty of time to deal with your request to confirm or decline cover before your existing insurance expires or is cancelled

Does the scheme cover advanced roles?

On the membership application form there will be a number of questions from the insurance company. Members occupying advanced roles will be asked to answer these and the insurance company will decide on an individual basis whether that person is eligible to join the scheme

Which geographical locations are included in the insurance?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This does not include crown dependencies overseas but, for the purposes of this insurance, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are included

I work in the military. Am I covered for work overseas?

No, only for work in the United Kingdom excluding crown dependencies overseas

Is my indemnity insuracne subscription tax deductible?

We are still in discussions with the Inland Revenue about this but it appears that the payment may be tax deductible

Before I stop my Trade Union cover and move to AfPP's indemnity insurance cover is there anything I should know?

Yes. Although the AfPP indemnity insurance scheme costs significantly less than Trade Union membership, which includes indemnity insurance, the terms of cover may be different. Most trade unions offer cover up to £3 million and Trade Union membership also offers other benefits such as workplace representation which AfPP does not offer

If I am a member of a Trade Union which includes indemnity insurance in its membership is it worth purchasing the AfPP indemnity insurance as well?

No. The AfPP indemnity insurance is a "contingent scheme". This means it only starts once all the other forms of indemnity insurance a person or organisation holds have failed. If you have indemnity insurance that is good enough for your purposes through your Trade Union there is no point joining AfPP's scheme as well
