The first time that Orthopaedics was addressed as a specialist interest by AfPP was in the Speciality Conference in London in June 2005. The sessions attracted a great deal of interest and the idea of a specialist interest group came out of that meeting.
Orthopaedic surgery accounts for over 20% of all procedures and it is a speciality which is growing rapidly in terms of complexity and scope. The Government has also recognised the need to invest in additional orthopaedic services in the future and for this reason it will continue to attract interest.
