Royal Bolton Hospital, theatres open day

New theatre staff sought to deliver services at ‘maternity supercentre’

An open day is to be held at the Royal Bolton Hospital on Saturday 26 February, to help recruit more staff for its new theatres. As part of Making it Better investment, the hospital will open two new Obstetric theatres on its improved and expanded maternity unit, with a further nineteen qualified members of theatres staff being sought to help deliver the new services.

The day will provide the opportunity for registered nurses and operating department practitioners (ODP), from student to more experienced levels, to find out what it is like to work in modern operating theatres. The event will not be appropriate for members of the general public with no current nursing experience.

Jackie Furlong, Departmental Manager for Theatres said: “As part of the improvements to maternity services, we have the opportunity to recruit more staff who are as enthusiastic and dedicated as the team we have in place. So that potential applicants are aware of how we invest in their career and how rewarding working in our theatres can be, we’re opening our doors and creating an interactive, informative recruitment day.”

The event will offer potential applicants the opportunity to experience simulated situations, including orthopaedic and endoscopy procedures. Current staff will be available to speak to applicants alongside representatives from the Association for Perioperative Practitioners, which offers education and professional support to theatre staff.

The Trust’s Training and Development Team will also be on hand to discuss the opportunities to build a rewarding career at the hospital.

The drop in event runs between 10am and 2pm and anyone who is interested does not need to make an appointment, dropping in at the Theatre Department, which is signposted from the main entrance, between these times. All attendees will be required to bring a document which identifies them as a registered or student nurse or ODP.

If anybody needs more information on the day, or cannot make the event but is interested in the positions available, they can contact Ms Jackie Furlong Departmental Manager Theatres on direct line 01204 390406
