Accelerated Clinical Endoscopist (Formally Non-Medical Endoscopist) Training Programme
Working with the Joint Advisory Committee on GI Endoscopy (JAG), Health Education England (HEE) is rolling out a new, accelerated training programme to train suitably qualified registered health professionals to perform safe diagnostic procedures in either upper GI endoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Following a pilot in 2016, in which two trainee cohorts completed the accelerated training, the programme is now being expanded. Three further cohorts started their training in 2017, and applications are now open for the next cohort starting in January. A further two cohorts are planned for 2018. The training is part-funded by HEE.
A published independent evaluation of the pilot highlights positive outcomes of the programme and can be found here
