Caring for those who Care Human Factors Survey

Working within the perioperative environment is an extremely rewarding profession but it can sometimes bring challenges. Our Caring for those who Care surveys have shown us the impact that negative cultures within the operating theatre can have on staff wellbeing.

Delivering healthcare can place individuals, teams and organisations under pressure. Staff have to make difficult decisions in dynamic and unpredictable circumstances.

What’s more, healthcare professionals are experiencing occupational burnout and fatigue from the increased stress caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic. This compounded stress and exhaustion is leading to "COVID Fatigue". Whilst healthcare workers have adapted remarkably quickly to the changes in practice caused by the pandemic, we understand that you continue to face enormous changes.

Human factors are key to enabling safer surgery, and resilience, the ability to manage change, teamwork and support will all be key to helping healthcare workers get through the pressures ahead. Over the next few months our focus will be on what individuals and teams are doing to ensure conditions in the workplace always make the safety of patients the primary concern.

We’d like to obtain an accurate understanding of what supports or hinders the way you work, including things that influence your behaviour. This survey concentrates on the way people in your workplace interact with each other.

To help us with this, we’ve created an anonymous survey that allows you to provide honest answers and feedback. It aims to collect data that can form a foundation for our next course of action. We completely respect your privacy, so we will never ask you to disclose your name, contact details or current place of work.

You can access the survey here.

Please note, by completing these questions, you are consenting to the answers being used anonymously. Please only complete this survey once.

This survey will be closing 18 December 2020.

Thank you for taking the time to help us better support you.
