AfPP continues to champion safer surgery and stronger perioperative practice across the UK – and it is the support of our members that helps make this work possible.
In July this year, AfPP joined other senior clinicians in calling on the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to provide clearer leadership on the use of unlicensed products for perioperative skin preparation in some NHS organisations.

The letter, signed by leading healthcare professionals including Lindsay Keeley, AfPP’s Clinical, Patient Safety and Quality Lead, and Oliver Tierney, AfPP President and Director, raises concerns around patient safety, clinical governance, informed consent and accountability. It calls for greater clarity and oversight to help ensure patients receive safe, evidence-based care.
This is just one example of how AfPP represents the interests of the perioperative profession on issues that have the potential to affect surgical safety, clinical standards and patient outcomes. By engaging with policymakers, regulators and healthcare leaders, AfPP works to ensure the voices of perioperative professionals are heard where decisions are being made.
