Will Windsor brings more than two decades of perioperative experience to his role as Elected Trustee, Chair of the Association for Perioperative Practice’s Inclusivity and Diversity Group, and Educators Specialist Interest Group (SIG) Lead. His career is characterised by clinical excellence, forward‑thinking leadership, and a steadfast commitment to the wellbeing of both patients and the perioperative workforce.
Will began his career as a Healthcare Assistant at Princess Alexandra Hospital and has continued to break new ground throughout his professional journey. Most notably, he became the first Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to be appointed Matron at University Hospitals Dorset, a landmark achievement reflecting his credibility, expertise, and leadership within multidisciplinary teams. Across roles in trauma, vascular services, robotics, and wider surgical service leadership, Will has consistently championed high standards of care while building inclusive, high‑performing teams.
He played a key role in the development of the surgical hub at Llantrisant Health Park, a state‑of‑the‑art facility housing 12 operating theatres dedicated to high‑volume day surgery and arthroplasty.
Will has since joined Swansea Bay University Health Board, where he is the first Operating Department Practitioner to hold the post of Deputy Head of Nursing for Theatres, Day Surgery, and Pre‑assessment at Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospitals. In this role, he continues to advocate for professional development, compassionate leadership, and inclusive practice across perioperative services.
