AfPP launches Educator of the Year Award to celebrate excellence in perioperative education

The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) is proud to announce the launch of its brand new Educator of the Year Award, created to recognise, reward and celebrate exceptional educators who are shaping the future of perioperative practice.

“This prestigious new award provides AfPP student members with the opportunity to acknowledge inspiring educators from their workplace, university, or placement area who go above and beyond to elevate perioperative education,” said Alex Duke, CEO of AfPP.

She added: “It honours those who foster supportive learning environments, champion professional development, and serve as role models within the profession.”

Celebrating excellence in education

The Educator of the Year Award recognises educators who demonstrate excellence in:

  • Developing a supportive learning environment
  • Building confidence in perioperative work activities
  • Making outstanding contributions to professional development by promoting evidence-based practice
  • Inspiring, involving and influencing competence in the workplace

“AfPP believes that exceptional educators play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of perioperative practitioners,” said Alex, adding: “This award shines a spotlight on those who set high standards, inspire others, and encourage continuous improvement across the profession.”

Who can nominate?

All AfPP student members are invited to nominate an educator who clearly demonstrates excellence in supporting the learning experience of perioperative students.

AfPP student membership is free for undergraduate, non-registered students. To become a student member and submit a nomination, visit the AfPP website.

How to apply

Student members can nominate an educator by completing the Educator of the Year Award application form online.

Students are encouraged to highlight how the educator’s practice is innovative, inclusive, and exemplary, and to explain how it has positively enhanced their learning experience.

Award recognition

Successful nominees will be shortlisted and reviewed by an AfPP judging panel. The winner of the Educator of the Year Award will receive:

  • A free one-year AfPP membership
  • An official certificate
  • A featured article arranged by the AfPP marketing team to highlight their achievement

The winner will be officially announced on 8 June 2026.
