Free AfPP membership for students: supporting the next generation of perioperative practitioners

Written by Susan Preston

As universities welcome students back for the new academic year, the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) is proud to remind aspiring perioperative practitioners that student membership is completely free.

There’s also a Newly Qualified Member rate of £72 for the first year after graduating, which comes with all the benefits of full registered membership. This heavily discounted rate gives additional support to newly-qualified practitioners at the start of their careers.

AfPP exists to support, educate, and represent those working, and training, within the perioperative environment. By joining AfPP, students gain access to a wealth of resources designed to help them thrive both academically and professionally, including:

  • Free access to the Journal of Perioperative Practice
  • Opportunities to connect with experienced practitioners through networking and events
  • Guidance on standards, best practice, and patient safety
  • Discounts on events, conferences, and educational materials
  • A supportive community invested in their growth and success

To further strengthen links with the profession, AfPP will also be visiting universities across the UK this term, offering talks and insight into perioperative careers, professional standards, and the value of early professional engagement.

Oliver Tierney, AfPP President, said: “Supporting students is at the heart of AfPP’s mission. By offering free membership, we’re opening doors to education, mentorship, and a professional community that will stay with them throughout their careers.”
