New Applications for Indemnity Insurance

This policy is available to AfPP members only and has been sourced specifically for Theatre practitioners who work in and around the theatre environment.

WHY DO I NEED IT?
Professional liability insurance protects you against allegations of malpractice. Your employer may provide cover for you, but it may not cover you in all cases, so please check with them as to the indemnity cover afforded by their scheme. If you have your own individual protection, you will have the benefit of your own representation, when needed.
NEW APPLICATIONS FOR INDEMNITY INSURANCE
Applications for indemnity insurance have to be made via the online Insurance Portal.

DOES THE SCHEME COVER WORK OUTSIDE THE PERIOPERATIVE ENVIRONMENT?
The scheme is restricted to perioperative practitioners who are AfPP members and who provide perioperative services defined as pre-operative anaesthetic care, intra-operative care and post-operative care.
Maternity and Obstetrics Cover
With effect from 1 April 2015 exclusions on maternity and obstetrics now soley apply to registered midwives performing midwifery services. As from 1 April 2015 cover will be afforded subject to all policy terms and conditions to perioperative practitioners who are accepted by the scheme underwriters (as listed in Underwriters Schedule A) while present during, and assisting with, the provision of maternity or obstetric services in a hospital. Indemnity Sub Limit. The Underwriters shall not be liable under this extension to pay more than £1,000,000 in the aggregate in respect of all Claims made in respect of this element of cover, irrespective of the level of insurance cover you have under this policy in other areas of your work.
The Indemnity limits (subject to the Sub Limit note), Premiums and charges for the Period 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 are detailed below.
The premiums have not increased on the previous year and AfPP has absorbed the IPT tax rise implemented by the Government in October 2016, from 9.5% to 10%. The amounts below also include a non-refundable administration fee of £7.00 that AfPP have needed to charge to assist with the costs of administering this insurance scheme for our members.

Please be aware that AfPP cannot give you any advice or recommendation as to whether the Professional Indemnity Insurance offered through our scheme master policy is the correct cover for you. We can only assist with the administration by liaising with underwriters on your behalf. It is for you to decide if the cover through our scheme meets your needs and circumstances by reading all the available documents below and then applying for cover by completing a renewal application online via the AfPP Insurance Portal, where on completion and acceptance by underwriters cover with be confirmed to you.
The cover provided via AfPP for subscribing members has been sourced from a single product provider, underwritten by The Medical Professional Liability Company Limited ("The MPLC"). It offers comprehensive Medical Professional Liability Insurance cover and is an insurance contract backed by Lloyd’s of London, which has a financial security rating of ‘A+’ (Strong) from Standard & Poors and ‘AA-’ (Very Strong) from Fitch Ratings the independent financial analysts. The MPLC is an underwriting intermediary licensed in Gibraltar by the Financial Services Commission, under licence number FSC00659B. The MPLC's insurances underwritten by certain underwriters at Lloyd's. The Master Policy cover runs yearly from the 1 April to 31 March.
